From 0 to 2 Years
Teeth may only start to appear when babies turn six months old. At this stage, it is important to take care and clean the gums after every feeding to remove any sticky coating. Remove the bottle before the baby sleeps. Later in this stage, brush the baby’s teeth using a soft-bristle toothbrush.
From 3 to 5 Years
At three years of age, the child should start brushing using fluoride toothpaste with minimum quantity. Some children may also develop the habit of thumb sucking, which may affect the developing teeth and move them out of position. The use of pacifiers should end when your child turns four.
From 6 to 9 Years
By this time, the child should have made brushing a regular habit. At this stage, young ones should know how to clean the back part of the teeth. You may also start teaching your child how to floss. As a parent, you should also be particular on what the child eats; teach them to avoid food that are harmful to the teeth.
As part of the child’s oral health, parents should set regular dental appointments. Most dentists recommend parents to bring their infants to the dental office before they reach their first birthday. When the child turns three, dental visits should take place every six months.
