Common Signs of Porn Addiction

Porn Addiction in SandyA 2002 survey by the Kinsey Institute for Research found that 86 percent of study participants said porn can “educate people.” About 72 percent said porn provides a harmless outlet for people’s fantasies. Among the respondents who said they watch pornography, about 80 percent said they felt “fine” about their habits.

According to Kinsey Institute senior scientist Erick Janssen, Ph.D., countless people consume unhealthy levels pornographic material but have “no problems with it whatsoever.” The question now is that when does watching porn becoming an addiction, and when is recovery advised? Here’s what Renaissance Ranch Outpatient has to say.

Antisocial Behavior

A person who is addicted to porn might start showing antisocial behaviors. They could start avoiding any type of social interactions or show signs of urgency, such as wanting to go or stay at home to watch porn.

Tendency to Keep Secrets

While many people can be quite secretive, porn addicts go the extra mile to keep their habits under lock and key. They could start hiding pornographic magazines under their beds or keeping videos in secret files. Some people can also be quite vocal about their sexuality but porn addicts will keep mum about their porn consumption.

Lack of Mojo

A porn addict’s fantasy life can ruin their real relationships. Because they are exerting a lot of effort into their porn consumption, they could lose the energy and the drive to make their real relationships work. This could be in the form of less foreplay, decreased intimacy and consistent lack of romantic efforts.

Mood Swings

When a person starts to feel like a porn or sex addict, they can suffer from increased irritability and mood swings that can affect their relationships with people. This could manifest in sudden emotional outbursts or holding grudges to justify their inclination to consume pornographic material.

As a general rule, when porn addiction starts to interfere with your relationships, it is advisable to seek help from professionals. This type of addiction is believed to happen because people tend to isolate themselves from others.
