What to Look for in a Good Dentist

Good DentistWhen you move to a new area, one of the things on your to-do list will be finding a new dentist. Try not to put this off too long as you never know when you might suddenly need an emergency dentist.

If you have moved to a large urban area, such as the outskirts of London, dentists abound and you might need to go and visit a few to find out if they are right for you. A dentist with a good reputation which extends a warm welcome to visitors is All Smiles Dental in Bromley.

All dentists in the UK need to be registered with the General Dental Council. You can look up your prospective dentist on their website using their registration number, which you will find under their name on the dental practice website. This register will tell you when and where the dentist studied, what qualifications they have and if they are a registered specialist in any particular kind of dentistry.

Also, you can check the dentist’s website to see if they have regular check-ups themselves, from the Care Quality Commission. There should be a section about the practice that includes a link to the commission’s latest report on the practice.

While you are on the website, you can also take a look at the practice. Many dental practice websites include photographs of the practice’s waiting area, dental surgery rooms and their equipment. Once you have had a good look at the website, you can either ring for an initial appointment, or, even better, pop in to make one.

Going in person to have a look at the practice is a very good idea. These are people who are going to be gazing into your mouth while you lie back, somewhat vulnerable, under a big light. Ideally, you want to get a physical feeling for whether you trust and like them or not.

So, wander in off the street. How do the welcome team treat you? Does the waiting area seem comfy and relaxing? Will they let you have a look round and maybe even meet a dentist? This is a great time to find out about all the treatments on offer and take away any literature on the practice to contrast and compare with other dental practices in the area.
